The myth tells the ancient God Saturn, moved away by Jove, took refuge in Janus, founding many cities, all starting with capital “A”.
Atina is one of these, so powerful over the ages to be described by Virgil as an allied of Camilla against Aenea’s troops. Atina Archaeological Museum preserves plenty of ruins and witnesses from that age, coming from Atina and the nearest villages: ceramics, amphoras, stone and metal objects and many ancient lances which testify the hard-fighting spirit of Sanniti people who lived in the area.
From Atina Museum and Pescarola Area, the route continues over the history, as you will find many churches, castles, buildings, towers, town walls and gates of great historical and architectural interest, from the Medieval and Renaissance age, thus especially in Atina and Alvito, key points for the cultural an economic rebirth of the whole valley.
